About the position

The Library Associate I - Patron & Information Services position at Calcasieu Parish Public Library is a part-time role focused on providing exceptional patron services, technical assistance, and outreach programming. The associate will engage with library patrons to facilitate information requests, assist with technology use, and support library operations, including circulation and collection management. This role emphasizes community engagement and continuous learning to enhance library services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and efficient patron service to enhance user satisfaction.
  • Facilitate patron requests for information, including research and resource assistance.
  • Utilize library tools and resources for effective reader's advisory and reference interviews.
  • Support patrons with technology use, internet access, and electronic resources.
  • Conduct library tours and provide information about library resources and materials.
  • Perform regular circulation transactions, including charging, discharging, and renewing materials.
  • Promote library card accounts and register new patrons accurately.
  • Collect fines and fees associated with patron accounts and perform daily financial reports.
  • Maintain the physical appearance and orderliness of library materials on shelves.
  • Assist in developing and implementing library programs and services for the community.
  • Engage in learning and development activities to improve job skills and knowledge about library services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of library principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current research methods and sources of information.
  • Previous experience in a library setting is desired.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and general knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Research skills and ability to use digital print resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social media management.
  • General knowledge of technology trends, including mobile devices and informational tools.
