About The Position

The Summer 2025 Bioprocess Innovation Intern position at dsm-firmenich in Columbia, MD offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a global flavors, fragrances, and ingredients organization. Interns will work on real business projects, develop skills, and network with peers and leadership. The internship runs from May 28, 2025, to August 14, 2025, and focuses on advancing the understanding of microorganisms and fermentation processes.

Requirements

  • Currently working on completion of a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Microbiology, Chemical/Bioprocess Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with aseptic technique and small-scale cultivations is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with ability to synthesize and parse data.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with your science mentor to advance our understanding of our microorganisms and fermentation processes.
  • Cultivate and then assess performance of microorganisms in experimental conditions.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental results, including statistical analysis and graphical presentation.
  • Prepare and present your scientific findings to the project team, stakeholders and management.
  • Prepare and present your findings at the annual Columbia Summer Intern Poster.
