About the position

The Summer 2025 Intern - Site Reliability Engineer position at Salesforce offers an opportunity for engineering students to work within the Site Reliability organization. Interns will engage in real projects that impact the company's cloud services, focusing on monitoring service availability and swiftly resolving incidents. This role emphasizes proactive problem-solving, automation, and collaboration with various teams to ensure optimal performance and reliability of customer-facing services.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cloud service availability and respond to service-impacting issues.
  • Act in key support roles during major incidents and participate in technical reviews for problem management.
  • Populate and participate in root cause analyses (RCAs) and hand them off to the Global Solutions team.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's internal policies and directives during operations.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to resolve customer concerns and technical issues.
  • Stay updated on industry innovations and assist in team development.
  • Automate detection and resolution of recurring issues in the production environment.
  • Create and improve processes to reduce operational and engineering toil.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a BS/MS program in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Systems engineering experience in enterprise-scale internet service engineering or support role.
  • Expertise in TCP/IP related technologies and networking protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix variants (Linux/Solaris/BSD) and experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Solaris.
  • Understanding of monitoring security systems and administration.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in Incident Management and understanding of ITIL service operations.
  • Willingness to work in a 24/7 team managing large data centers and be available for shift work.
  • Experience with AWS/C2S based infrastructure and systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Go.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Chef/Puppet or automated deployment tools.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins/Bamboo/Spinnaker pipeline execution.
  • Experience in supporting and maintaining monitoring and alert systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS configuration and management.
  • Certifications in Linux+, RedHat, and AWS.
  • Experience with Kubernetes-based applications and services.
  • Knowledge of Agile Process and DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience in conducting blameless retrospectives and post-incident investigations.
