About the position

The Tableau Research internship at Salesforce offers PhD students the opportunity to engage in meaningful research projects that align with Tableau's mission of helping people see and understand data. Interns will work closely with mentors to develop projects that may lead to co-authored academic papers, providing a platform for professional growth and contribution to the field of data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a mentor to define and execute a research project.
  • Design and prototype solutions related to visual analytics, conversational analytics, or machine learning.
  • Conduct user studies, collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Create a final presentation and write-up of the project findings.
  • Present updates and findings at team meetings and potentially co-author academic papers.

Requirements

  • PhD student in good academic standing with research and publishing experience.
  • Strong technical skills in prototyping languages such as D3/JavaScript, Python, R, C++, C#, Java, or Go.
  • Experience in setting up user studies and analyzing data.
  • Strong computational skills in statistical modeling and data wrangling.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship experience in a related field.
  • Portfolio of UX/interaction/visualization design examples.
