About the position

The Summer 2025 Materials & Processes Engineering Intern position at Blue Origin offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to engage directly with experienced engineers in the field of materials engineering. This internship is designed to last for 12 weeks, during which interns will play a crucial role in supporting various business units within the company. The work will focus on optimizing materials and processes, which is essential for the ongoing development of safe and repeatable space flight. Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks, including parameter development, material and process selection, drawing reviews, managing qualification test campaigns, and interacting with external vendors. This hands-on experience is aimed at fostering a deep understanding of the materials and processes that are critical to the success of space exploration initiatives. Interns will be part of a diverse team that is committed to a culture of safety and innovation. The role requires a strong commitment to detail and a passion for space, as the work directly impacts the future of space exploration. Interns will have the chance to contribute to projects that lower the cost of access to space and support Blue Origin's vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space, ultimately benefiting Earth. Responsibilities

  • Work with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to optimize materials and processes.
  • Support parameter development and material/process selection.
  • Conduct drawing reviews and manage qualification test campaigns.
  • Interact with and audit external vendors to ensure compliance and quality standards.
  • Provide ongoing support to existing configurations on the production floor.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • Completed at least one year of full-time coursework post high school graduation (sophomore standing).
  • Available to work full-time for a minimum of 12 weeks without concurrent coursework.
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for space.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in materials engineering or materials science.
  • Experience with chemical engineering.
  • Experience working with thermal protection systems (TPS).
  • Experience working with composite materials.
  • Lab experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in a production facility.
  • Relevant internship/co-op and academic project experience that demonstrates technical skills and leadership qualities.
  • Co-curricular engagement in related activities.
