About the position

The Summer 2025 Nurse Extern Program at Allegheny Health Network offers nursing students the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of professional nurses. This part-time, rotational position allows externs to perform essential patient care activities while developing their clinical skills in various hospital settings across the Erie region.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competency in clinical skills (i.e. hygiene, nutritional needs, vital signs, and specimens).
• Communicates pertinent patient data accurately and utilizes time management skills to organize and prioritize patient care activities.
• Assumes responsibility for own professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

• CPR certification from the American Heart Association
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Enrolled in an approved/accredited diploma/degree nursing program
• Projected December 2025 or Spring 2026 nursing program graduate in good academic standing.
