About the position

The Ocular Health Formulations R&D Intern position at Alcon for Summer 2025 is designed for students pursuing a PhD in relevant fields. The intern will support the development of novel dry eye products, gaining hands-on experience in formulation development while working under the guidance of a lead scientist. This role offers the opportunity to engage in hypothesis setting, experimental work, and data presentation, contributing to meaningful projects that impact patient care.

Responsibilities

• Support formulation development activities for novel dry eye products.
• Participate in hypothesis setting and design of experiments (DOE).
• Conduct experimental work and present data to the supervisor and team.
• Gain knowledge of formulation development activities in the medical device/pharma industry.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to the internship and at least one additional semester following the internship.
• Must have a graduation date of December 2025 or beyond.
• Must be pursuing a PhD degree in polymer science, polymer chemistry, colloid chemistry, biopolymers, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, or chemical engineering.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
• Demonstrated leadership skills through extracurricular activities or projects.
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in polymer design, polymer solutions, polymer gels, rheology, emulsions, surfactant systems, or lipids.
• Troubleshooting skills.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
