About the position

The Summer 2025 Software Applications Engineering Intern position at Blue Origin offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to engage in impactful projects that contribute to the future of space exploration. As part of a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers, interns will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of space flight operations. This internship is designed for students who are passionate about technology and innovation, and who are eager to apply their skills in a real-world setting. Interns will work full-time for a minimum of 12 weeks, directly collaborating with experienced engineers on various software development projects that support Blue Origin's mission to lower the cost of access to space and enable millions of people to live and work in space. Intern projects may encompass a wide range of applied software development tasks, including the design, development, and testing of software systems that are integral to mission operations. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to aerospace software applications, where they will help build frameworks and tools necessary for integrating spaceflight systems with model simulations. This hands-on experience will allow interns to innovate and create real-time simulations, enhance user experiences through front-end development, and work on back-end systems, automated platforms, and hybrid cloud infrastructures. Additionally, interns will engage with mission control software, contributing to ground software systems and tools that facilitate the testing and operation of Blue Origin's vehicles. The role is part of the Enterprise Technology (ET) team, which focuses on developing the digital infrastructure essential for advancing Blue Origin's mission. Interns will be at the forefront of digital technology initiatives, helping to build the road to space and ensuring that the company's digital capabilities are robust and effective.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with experienced engineers on software development projects.
  • Design, develop, and test software applications for aerospace operations.
  • Build frameworks and tools for integrating spaceflight systems with model simulations.
  • Contribute to the development of mission control software and ground systems.
  • Enhance internal tools and processes to improve automation and scalability.
  • Participate in the development of digital infrastructure for Enterprise Technology.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • Completed at least one year of full-time coursework post high school graduation (sophomore standing).
  • Available to work full-time for a minimum of 12 weeks without concurrent coursework.
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for Blue Origin's mission and vision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant internship or co-op experience demonstrating technical skills and leadership qualities.
  • Hands-on project experience in software development.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, JavaScript, React, and TypeScript.
  • Experience with full-stack software development.
  • Familiarity with machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Knowledge of Spark, SQL, and Tableau.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a team environment.
