About the position

Ulteig Engineers, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for a Summer 2025 Internship in the Substation Department. This internship is designed for individuals who demonstrate high integrity and a desire for personal excellence through the acquisition of technical and communication skills. The Engineering Intern will work under close supervision, receiving specific and detailed instructions to complete tasks and achieve expected results. The primary focus of this internship will be on structural components of electrical substations, specifically those operating at voltages between 69kV and 345kV. Interns will engage in the design and analysis of structural steel and foundations for both new and existing projects. Additionally, there may be opportunities to work on utility and renewable transmission systems ranging from 34.5kV to 345kV. The internship will provide valuable engineering design experience, practical application of academic coursework, and exposure to the workforce within a leading consulting engineering firm. Interns will collaborate with engineers to complete assignments and meet project deadlines, gaining hands-on experience in a supportive environment. The role may also include site visits and training sessions to enhance learning and professional development. Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers in completing assignments and meeting project deadlines.
  • Work on structural components of electrical substations, including design and analysis of structural steel and foundations.
  • Participate in site visits and training sessions as needed.
  • Support project deliverables and client success through effective communication and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years completed towards earning a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Specific coursework in structural analysis is required; steel and concrete design coursework is preferred.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Authorization to work permanently in the US.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant military experience is considered for transitioning service members.
