The Cyber Advanced Analysis Team (CAAT) within Navy Federal's Information Security Division is dedicated to identifying, tracking, and mitigating cyber threats that affect Navy Federal Credit Union Members. This team plays a crucial role in addressing systemic and persistent threats such as fraud schemes and identity theft. CAAT collaborates with various teams across Navy Federal to innovate and automate protective measures against these threats. The Summer Associate position is a three-month research opportunity where the selected candidate will conduct a research experiment aimed at presenting the findings at the end of the summer. Potential projects for the Summer Associate may include conducting a retrospective analysis of Navy Federal Members' accounts that have been victims of account takeover (ATO). The goal is to build a model that identifies potential fraud losses that could have been averted by implementing new security controls for account credentials. Another project could involve investigating phishing sites that target Navy Federal Members, analyzing the phish kits or other commonalities across these sites. Additionally, the Summer Associate may work on building a machine learning model to categorize or classify threats found on the deep and dark web that could impact Navy Federal Members. The role requires retrieving, analyzing, and validating data to ensure the accuracy of reported results. The Summer Associate will analyze open-source data, deep web data, and internal member data to understand, predict, and identify opportunities for enhancing member security. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for developing and presenting proposals based on their findings from the analysis and research to management, including senior executives.
