About the position

As a member of the Baseline Analytics Data Engineering team, the Data Engineer Summer Associate will focus on creating new data pipelines that utilize powerful cloud tools to deliver data and insights to analysts at Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU). This role is designed for individuals who are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fields such as Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, or Data Science. The position will involve working on potential projects that include building data engineering solutions within a Databricks/Azure data ecosystem, which encompasses an enterprise data lake, data warehouse, and streaming analytics. The associate will be responsible for designing and developing data engineering solutions for both batch and near real-time datasets, applying software engineering principles to enhance existing solutions, and improving the delivery of solutions through process innovation and task automation. The Data Engineer Summer Associate will partner with data analysts to deliver data product solutions in the Enterprise Data Lake. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, the ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights, and a collaborative spirit. The associate will participate in an agile and fast-moving engineering process, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and relevance of the data presented. The position also emphasizes the importance of improving the performance and reliability of production code, as well as understanding and exploring complex data sets. The ideal candidate will have experience programming with Python and SQL, along with strong communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data pipeline features to deliver business insights.
  • Deliver code using tools including Spark, SQL, Python, Databricks, and Azure Synapse.
  • Design Delta Files and Database tables with metrics and context that drive insights.
  • Participate in an agile and fast-moving engineering process.
  • Apply engineering principles into the design and enhancement of new and existing solutions.
  • Understand and explore complex data sets.
  • Improve the performance and reliability of production code.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and relevance of the data presented.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor or Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science, or other related field.
  • Experience programming with Python and SQL.
  • An analytical mindset with a strong ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights.
  • Team player with enthusiasm for collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Azure Certified Data Engineer
  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer
  • Engineering experience in big data environments, including data lakes, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Redshift, Snowflake.
