About the position

The Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) at Navy Federal plays a crucial role in overseeing technology portfolio investments by fostering collaborative partnerships across the enterprise. The EPMO is responsible for facilitating guardrails and lean governance, ensuring due diligence in the analysis, approval, and funding of technology work, and supporting informed decision-making and governance of a value-focused enterprise portfolio. Within this framework, the EPMO Value Realization and Analytics team focuses on providing quantitative analysis and value-driven insights into the selection and management of work within Navy Federal's internal technology portfolio. This involves collaboration with EPMO Governance and various business unit and technology partners to develop and manage definitions, standards, and practices that ensure leaders have access to deeper data-centered information about both the risks and value propositions associated with technology portfolio investments. Navy Federal's commitment to its members necessitates constant improvements in technical services and features to ensure a top-tier member experience. Technology enhancements are pivotal in achieving this goal, and the EPMO is central to refining the governing and funding processes. The internship role will concentrate on building and enhancing the data and analytical capabilities and tools that facilitate the EPMO's governance responsibilities. The Summer Associate will interact with numerous stakeholders across the credit union, providing a unique opportunity to observe Navy Federal's operations from a distinctive perspective. This position will allow the Summer Associate to work closely with executive leadership in the EPMO and other departments, influencing decision-making at the corporate level. It is essential for the team member in this role to be comfortable briefing senior leaders, particularly regarding data and quantitative insights, and to demonstrate strong independent and innovative thinking. The Summer Associate will work cross-functionally between departments, focusing on the intersection of analytics and business. The primary project for the Summer Associate will involve exploring how Navy Federal can enhance its use of analytics to make data-driven decisions regarding technology project selection and financing. This project will require a Summer Associate who is interested in and comfortable with quantitative analysis and can effectively communicate this analysis to senior business professionals. Additionally, the Summer Associate will have the opportunity to pursue secondary projects that align with their professional and academic interests.

Responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders across the credit union to develop insights into the enterprise portfolio management process
  • Provide recommendations on how Navy Federal can improve its governance of value streams and technology portfolios
  • Work with project teams to identify and define value and risks in proposed and ongoing technology projects and quantify that information into metrics
  • Work with project teams and Navy Federal leaders to develop standardized measures of portfolio progress and success
  • Present findings to key stakeholders and senior executives
  • Become integrated into and participate in the day-to-day strategy, analysis, and operations of the team

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a master's degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Strategy, or other related field
  • Experience with research, analysis, and data manipulation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience using data visualization and analytical tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Comfort working with large datasets and telling stories with data
  • Ability to work independently and think outside of the box
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
  • Basic knowledge of financial services/project management/value management is a plus
