About the position

The Data Engineering team at Navy Federal Credit Union is an integral part of the Fraud Systems and Technology division, focusing on the management of cloud data pipelines and governance. As part of the team's strategic initiatives for the fiscal year 2024, there is a significant emphasis on decommissioning on-premises servers, including the ATOM system. This transition is crucial for enhancing the data infrastructure that supports near-real-time fraud detection and prevention. The Data Engineering team collaborates closely with various enterprise functions and business units within NFCU, ensuring that the data infrastructure is robust and effective in combating fraud. Key stakeholders in this initiative include teams from Fraud Data & Reporting, Fraud Detection, Data Science & Machine Learning, Fraud Operations within Security, and Enterprise Data Governance (EDG). The team is also involved in several potential projects aimed at improving data ingestion processes for Fraud teams, analyzing real-time data architecture, addressing cloud data quality concerns, and conducting performance reviews of Databricks and SQL code. Additionally, the team serves as the DTA process owner and consultant for new and recertification projects. In this role, you will contribute to the development of technical requirements, including data definitions, business rules, and data quality requirements. You will conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for data, ensuring data accuracy and integrity through thorough research. Compliance with deliverable reporting requirements will be a key focus, achieved through quality data audits and analysis. You will also identify and compile data sets using various tools to predict, improve, and measure the success of key business outcomes. Cleaning and organizing raw data, generating descriptive statistics, and supporting team projects will be essential tasks. Furthermore, you will research data quality concerns and contribute to relevant documentation or project plans.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of technical requirements including data definitions, business rules, and data quality requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with deliverable reporting requirements by performing quality data audits and analysis.
  • Identify and compile data sets using a variety of tools to help predict, improve, and measure the success of key business-to-business outcomes.
  • Clean and organize raw data and generate descriptive statistics in support of business intelligence and data science projects.
  • Support and participate in team projects and initiatives.
  • Research data quality concerns and contribute to data documents or project plans.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar quantitative fields.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar quantitative fields.
  • 1-2 years of experience in data analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with data cleaning and preprocessing techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge of data cleaning and other analytical techniques required for data usage.
  • Skill in interpreting, extrapolating, and interpolating data for statistical research and modeling.
  • Knowledge of various data structures and ability to extract data sources (e.g., PySpark, PowerBI).
