About the position

The Savings Products Data Science team at Navy Federal Credit Union is dedicated to developing predictive modeling solutions that enhance our understanding of member behaviors and engagement with our deposit products. As a Summer Associate, you will play a crucial role in supporting the team's data science initiatives by creating impactful models that aim to increase product take-up and deepen our insights into member engagement with various deposit products, including certificates of deposits, money market accounts, checking accounts, IRAs, and ESAs. In this position, you will engage in representative projects such as building a machine-learning propensity model that predicts the likelihood of an NFCU member having excess deposits in their checking account and the potential need for establishing recurring transfers into a money market account. You will also perform complex analytical work on large datasets to better understand issues surrounding member engagement and behavior. Additionally, you will support feature engineering efforts by creating or adjusting flags and aggregating data that will be utilized in future modeling endeavors. Your responsibilities will include supporting data science and machine-learning efforts, retrieving, analyzing, and modeling data within our Azure Databricks environment, and packaging your results and findings into executive-level presentations to be shared with senior management. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant projects that directly impact our members' experiences and the overall success of our deposit products.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or other related degree
  • Experience with Python (Pyspark)
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with or knowledge of cloud technologies (Microsoft Azure, Databricks)
  • Experience with data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience working with ambiguity in data/analytical efforts
