About the position

The Summer Camp Chef position at Hamsa Cooking Inc. involves overseeing culinary operations at summer camps located in Arizona and New York. The role requires ensuring high standards of sanitation, safety, and food quality while managing a team to prepare meals for up to 400 guests daily. The chef will also develop menus catering to various dietary restrictions and maintain effective communication with the management team.

Responsibilities

  • Help to produce and oversee day-to-day culinary operations in a summer camp kitchen.
  • Ensure high standards of sanitation, cleanliness, and safety are maintained throughout all kitchen areas.
  • Responsible for safe and efficient kitchen workflow and delegation of kitchen tasks.
  • Assist in the development of menu items for special dietary restricted guests.
  • Develop and follow standardized recipes and techniques for food preparation and presentation.
  • Minimize food costs and exercise portion and quality control of all food produced.
  • Follow and maintain safe food production systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate food preparation and meal service for up to 400 guests daily.
  • Maintain effective quantity control based on camp food consumption.
  • Interact with campers and staff while maintaining an enthusiastic attitude.
  • Communicate efficiently with Hamsa management team on kitchen inventory.
  • Coordinate and supervise kitchen personnel regarding production, quality, and cost control.
  • Check freshness and quality of ingredients and maintain food production logs and temperature charts.
  • Work with management to create a memorable experience for all campers and staff.
  • Lead by example and stay ahead in all food production and kitchen tasks.
  • Look for opportunities to improve the operation and communicate this information.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years culinary experience (summer camp experience preferred).
  • ServSafe Certified.
  • Previous experience in food safety training, culinary arts, and large scale cooking.
  • Ability to produce large quantities and delegate food production tasks.
  • Knowledge of food storage, prep, cost, and labor systems.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to motivate a team.
  • Valid US driver's license.
