About The Position

The Summer Camp Education Assistant - Inclusion position is designed to support special needs students during the summer camp program at Catalina Foothills High School. The role involves working closely with individual students to assist in their educational progress as outlined in their Individual Education Programs (IEPs). The assistant will modify instructional materials, provide physical support, and help students develop essential life and study skills in a nurturing environment.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Six months of experience working with special needs children.
  • Ability to obtain a Level I - IVPP Fingerprint Clearance card through Arizona Department of Public Safety.
  • Willingness to support feeding and toileting of students with training.

  • Knowledge of universal precautions for exposure to bodily fluids.

  • Skill in using adaptive computer software and therapy equipment.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Work individually with students with special needs to support their educational progress according to their IEPs.
  • Modify lessons and instructional materials for student accessibility and comprehension.
  • Conduct parallel teaching and tutoring sessions.
  • Take notes for students as needed.
  • Work with small groups of students to enhance learning.
  • Maintain behavior reinforcement programs for positive and negative behavior.
  • Provide physical support to ensure timely movement between classroom locations.
  • Assist with personal, physical, and custodial needs of students, including feeding and mobility support.
  • Assist with range of motion exercises and physical/occupational therapy programs.
  • Support students in developing fine and gross motor skills and balance.
  • Assist with speech therapy as required.
  • Follow established medical emergency plans for medically frail students.
  • Teach life skills and study skills to students.
  • Write and submit progress reports on student activities.
  • Assist other special needs students as needed.
  • Use various communication methods to assist students in developing functional communication skills.
  • Monitor and document student activities and progress for review by teachers and parents.
  • Assist teachers in implementing educational programs for special needs children.
  • Attend consultations with specialists to address the needs of special needs children.
  • Encourage positive self-concept and enthusiasm in children during interactions.
  • Prepare classroom and playground areas as needed.
  • Adhere to program goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist students on the bus as required by their IEPs, ensuring safety and comfort during transport.
