About the position

The construction intern position at MoDOT involves inspecting routine construction items to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract terms. The role is performed under moderate supervision and includes responsibilities such as coordinating construction inspections, maintaining documentation, and providing field checks for contractor surveying operations. Responsibilities

• Coordinates and performs construction inspections verifying compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Inspects routine construction items such as asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, paving, small bridges, and utility adjustments.
• Prepares final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs through measurements and computations.
• Maintains construction documentation, records, and files; prepares progress reports and keeps supervisors informed of job activities.
• Provides field checks for contractor surveying operations and serves as party chief on routine layout and staking.
• Performs lead worker responsibilities, including providing instruction, assigning work, and coaching team members.
• Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program, with engineering programs needing to be ABET-accredited.
• Must possess and maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
• Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.
