About the position

As a Summer Intern - Electrical Engineer at Allegion, you will engage in meaningful work that directly impacts the Electrical Engineering competency. This role offers valuable experience in defining and scoping requirements for electrical hardware designs, contributing to the Access Technologies business, and learning about automatic door systems and access control solutions. You will participate in peer reviews, hardware testing, and gain hands-on experience in an engineering laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Active and passive component analysis on existing electrical designs for sustaining engineering efforts.
  • Participate in contract manufacturer discussions for existing and new products.
  • Participate in requirements definition of new electrical products (motor controllers, logic devices etc.).
  • Define and execute hardware and functional testing activities.
  • Design tools to measure and analyze existing and new products.
  • Laboratory support including manufacturing test systems and data acquisition equipment.
  • Document standard operating procedures and training information.
  • Participate in firmware development discussions for existing and new products.
  • Utilize tools such as functional block diagrams, flow diagrams, state-diagrams, and others as required in product development.
  • Work with a team to produce well-rounded solutions.
  • Deepen understanding of basic electronics and the use of electrical tools, such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, and digital logic analyzers.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative, e.g., school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, leadership on school or work projects, etc.
  • Basic electronics understanding, including low voltage wiring.
  • Preferred knowledge of C programming language.
  • Preferred knowledge of working with embedded microprocessors and their associated IDE and tools.
  • Passion to be hands-on and able to work in an Engineering laboratory environment.
  • Ability to work in both a team and individual setting.
  • Resiliency and ability to adapt quickly.
  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques.
  • A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion's business and customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of C programming language.
  • Experience with embedded microprocessors and their associated IDE and tools.
