About the position

The Summer Intern - Hardware Engineer (Connectivity and Sensing) position at Allegion offers an opportunity for students pursuing relevant degrees to gain hands-on experience in hardware engineering, specifically in the areas of wireless connectivity and sensing technologies. Interns will work within a collaborative team environment, contributing to the development of advanced technology solutions that enhance security and safety. This role emphasizes professional development, learning opportunities, and building strong relationships with peers and leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience with embedded wireless technologies such as WiFi, BLE, UWB and Thread
  • Utilize engineering tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, and design analysis
  • Gain experience in embedded hardware design and testing techniques
  • Deepen understanding of RF design and antenna considerations
  • Work with a team to produce well-rounded solutions
  • Participate in daily and other regular team meetings, including project teams and hardware competency
  • Deepen understanding in basic electronics and the use of electrical tools, such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, and digital logic analyzers
  • Obtain experience to create a foundation for growth and future opportunities with Allegion.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative, e.g. school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, leadership on school or work projects, etc.
  • At least one class in basic circuit theory or design - preference is mid-level proficiency in circuit design
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD design tool is a plus
  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques
  • A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion's business and customers.
