About the position

As a Summer Intern in the Mechanical/Electrical Engineering department at our Steelcraft Manufacturing Plant in Blue Ash, OH, you will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that directly impacts our operations. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable experience in defining and scoping requirements for manufacturing processes, assisting in the management of both major and minor capital projects, and ensuring adherence to the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) schedule. You will also learn the tactical aspects of troubleshooting equipment and evaluating production cells for waste opportunities. During your internship, you will perform time studies and compare results with playbooks and configurators, contributing to the overall efficiency and productivity of our operations. You will work within a multi-functional team to resolve real-world issues from both strategic and tactical perspectives, focusing on equipment availability and supporting all metrics of the assigned area. Your role will also involve reducing quality issues in the Doors Value Stream and improving delivery and productivity in the Frames Value Stream. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will liaise with operations, maintenance, and other departments to enhance employee engagement and explore new technologies that align with our current processes and products. Responsibilities

  • Work in a multi-functional team to resolve real-world issues from a strategic and tactical focus.
  • Assist with the focus on equipment availability while supporting all metrics of the assigned area.
  • Contribute to projects while developing an understanding of the business and its operations.
  • Reduce quality issues in the Doors Value Stream and improve delivery and productivity in the Frames Value Stream.
  • Liaise with operations, maintenance, and other departments to improve employee engagement.
  • Explore and seek new technologies compatible with current processes and products.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BS/BA Engineering degree or a related field.
  • Completion of Junior year at the start of the internship.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative, such as being a school club officer or sports team captain.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with complex data.
  • Effective listening, time management, and creative problem-solving techniques.
  • A desire to learn, grow, and develop by working on impactful projects.
  • Ideally, a GPA of 3.0 or higher and some previous work experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience in a related field.
  • Experience with engineering software or tools.
