About the position

The Summer Law Clerk position at Health Law Advocates (HLA) offers law students the opportunity to gain practical experience in public interest law, specifically focusing on mental health advocacy for children. The role involves working closely with attorneys to assist clients in accessing mental health services and navigating the healthcare system. This position is designed to develop future public interest attorneys committed to serving vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with the representation of individual clients
  • Conduct legal research
  • Analyze children's health and educational records
  • Assist attorneys' advocacy with schools and state agencies
  • Communicate with clients and key collaterals
  • Conduct legal research on issues affecting MHAP for Kids client matters

Requirements

  • Completion of 1L or 2L year in law school
  • Demonstrated interest in public interest law
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Knowledge of health care/insurance system and systemic barriers to health care

Nice-to-haves

  • Multilingual ability
