About the position

The Summer Rainbow Crew Member position with the Idaho Conservation Corps is part of a unique AmeriCorps service program designed for young adults interested in conservation and outdoor careers. This role offers hands-on training and experience in habitat restoration, invasive species management, and trail work, all while working in the beautiful setting of Lake Wenatchee, Washington. Participants will engage in physically demanding projects that require teamwork, resilience, and a commitment to environmental stewardship. The program emphasizes personal development, leadership, and community building, providing a structured environment where participants can grow and learn together. Participants will be part of a four-person crew, led by a staff member, and will be responsible for completing assigned projects safely and efficiently. The work will involve collaboration with program staff and other crew members, focusing on safe workplace practices and proper tool use. Crew members will work on high-priority conservation projects for various land management partners, including the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. Projects may include constructing bridges, restoring at-risk landscapes, and conducting GIS mapping and surveys. The program is designed to be immersive, with limited access to modern conveniences. Participants will unplug from technology, focusing on community and teamwork. Daily activities will include meal preparation, water treatment, and tool maintenance, culminating in family-style dinners and educational sessions. Each crew member will be mentored and encouraged to take on leadership roles, culminating in opportunities to act as a leader of the day or week by the end of the program. This position not only provides valuable work experience but also fosters critical life skills and confidence in young adults.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in physically demanding conservation projects in various weather and terrain conditions.
  • Work as part of a four-person crew under the direction of a Crew Leader.
  • Ensure the safe completion of assigned projects to predetermined specifications.
  • Pay attention to safe workplace practices and proper tool use.
  • Engage in group activities including meal prep, water treatment, and tool maintenance.
  • Participate in informal and formal educational discussions.
  • Create a Participant Success Plan for self-improvement and reflection.
  • Earn industry-recognized credentials through participation in the program.
