About the position

The Superintendent at Lane Construction Corporation will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the operations of a large Tunnel project in the New Jersey Metro Area, specifically in North Bergen, NJ. This position requires a highly organized individual who can effectively schedule all earthwork and other self-performed work while coordinating field crews through directives given to foremen. The Superintendent will be responsible for planning and scheduling all requirements to control labor, equipment, and material costs, ensuring that all operations are completed in a timely manner and within budget constraints. The ideal candidate should be flexible with working hours to accommodate the demands of the project. In this role, the Superintendent will oversee field personnel, manage daily and weekly schedules, and supervise construction operations. This includes scheduling grading, drainage, paving, structures, and other miscellaneous highway construction crews and subcontractors on a daily basis. The Superintendent will provide leadership and direction to construction personnel, manage field operations, and coordinate work with other company Superintendents and subcontractors. Additionally, the Superintendent will assist in on-the-job training, emphasize safety, quality, and production, and take an active role in leading by example. The position also involves assisting engineers with quantities and productions, coordinating equipment and crews to maximize efficiency, attending status meetings to discuss progress and public impact, and performing additional assignments as needed. The Superintendent will assist estimators and engineers during the pursuit of new work, develop and train Superintendents, Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Workers, and ensure that all resources assigned are maintained, protected, secured, and used at optimum efficiency. Furthermore, the Superintendent will be responsible for protecting and enhancing public relations, understanding project budgets, and developing Foremen through mentoring. The role requires a working knowledge of all required plans and specifications, as well as the ability to assist with survey and field layout while carrying out job duties in alignment with Lane values.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee field personnel, daily/weekly schedules, and construction operations
  • Supervise and schedule grading, drainage, paving, structures, and other miscellaneous highway construction crews and subcontractors on a daily basis
  • Provide leadership and direction to construction personnel

  • Perform additional assignments as needed
  • Assist estimators and engineers during the pursuit of new work including borrow pit locations and selection, plant site selection, value engineering, etc.
  • Develop and train Superintendents, Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Workers
  • Ensure that all resources assigned are maintained, protected, secured, and used at optimum efficiency
  • Protect and enhance public relations, company image, and company worth
  • Understand project budgets and productions to manage personnel and equipment efficiently
  • Have a working knowledge of all required plans and specifications
  • Develop Foreman through mentoring
  • Assist with survey and field layout
  • Carry out job duties while maintaining Lane values
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience within the tunneling sector
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills
  • Ability to work in a high production environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working understanding of types of equipment necessary for production
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • Willingness to travel if necessary
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent team building skills
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar is desired but not necessary
  • Superior math computation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and quickly adaptable to changing conditions
  • Demonstrated and verifiable ability to manage, supervise, schedule, and delegate on large and complicated projects

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar is desired but not necessary
