About the position

The Superintendent at Lane Construction Corporation will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing various construction operations, particularly in the realm of heavy/highway projects. This position requires a strong leader who can effectively schedule and coordinate all earthwork, roadwork, and other self-performed tasks while directing field crews through foremen. The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring that all operations are completed on time and within budget, emphasizing the importance of safety, quality, and production throughout the process. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as the role may require adjustments based on project needs and timelines. In this position, the Superintendent will oversee field personnel and manage daily and weekly schedules, ensuring that construction operations run smoothly. This includes supervising grading, drainage, paving, and other highway construction crews, as well as subcontractors. The Superintendent will provide leadership and direction to construction personnel, manage field operations, and coordinate work with other Superintendents and subcontractors. Additionally, the role involves assisting in on-the-job training, emphasizing safety and quality, and coordinating equipment and crews to maximize efficiency. The Superintendent will also attend status meetings to discuss project progress and public impact, perform additional assignments as needed, and assist estimators and engineers in pursuing new work opportunities. Developing and training Superintendents, Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Workers is a key responsibility, as is ensuring that all resources are maintained and used efficiently. The Superintendent will need to understand project budgets and production requirements to manage personnel and equipment effectively, while also having a working knowledge of all required plans and specifications. Overall, this role is vital to maintaining Lane Construction's reputation for excellence in the construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee field personnel, daily/weekly schedules, and construction operations
  • Supervise and schedule grading, drainage, paving, structures, and other miscellaneous highway construction crews and subcontractors on a daily basis
  • Provide leadership and direction to construction personnel
  • Manage field operations as well as coordinate work with other company Superintendents and subcontractors
  • Assist in On-the-Job training
  • Take an active role in emphasizing safety, quality and production, leading by example
  • Assist Engineers with quantities and productions
  • Coordinate equipment and crews and other job related activities to maximize efficiency
  • Attend status meetings to discuss progress and public impact
  • Perform additional assignments as needed
  • Assist estimators and engineers during the pursuit of new work including borrow pit locations and selection, plant site selection, value engineering, etc.
  • Develop and train Superintendents, Engineers, Foremen and Craft Workers
  • Ensure that ALL resources assigned are maintained, protected, secured and used at optimum efficiency
  • Protection and enhancement of public relations, company image, and company worth
  • Understand project budgets and productions to manage personnel and equipment efficiently
  • Have a working knowledge of all required plans and specifications
  • Develop Foreman through mentoring
  • Assist with survey and field layout
  • Carry out job duties while maintaining Lane values
  • And other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience for a Heavy/Highway contractor ($100M+ level)
  • Demonstrated decision making skills
  • Ability to work in high production environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of HCSS preferred
  • Working understanding of types of equipment necessary for production
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • Familiar with DOT standards
  • Excellent team building skills is a must
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar is desired but not necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and quickly adaptable to changing conditions across all spectrums
  • Demonstrated and verifiable ability to manage, supervise, schedule, and delegate on large and complicated projects
