About the position

The Superintendent at Vaughn Construction is responsible for providing overall on-site field supervision for construction projects, particularly in the higher education, healthcare, and research sectors. This role involves collaborating with the project management team to develop logistics and communication plans, ensuring compliance with quality procedures, and supervising various personnel on-site. The Superintendent plays a crucial role in maintaining safety standards, promoting effective communication, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Develop a clear and concise site logistics, lifting, hoisting, deliveries and site access plan.
• Inspect construction activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents.
• Know, understand and consistently enforce Vaughn's safety program and OSHA rules.
• Provide technical assistance, e.g. interpretation of drawings, recommended construction methods and equipment, etc. as required.
• Actively coordinate trade and associated installations in advance to mitigate conflicts due to sequencing, constructability, schedule and/or spatial issues.
• Review plans, specifications, general notes and shop/working drawings for assigned activities prior to performing assigned duties.
• Promote positive communication among employees and work as a team with project management, QA/QC and safety coworkers.
• Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
• Help create and sustain a positive company image.
• Assist in effectively training assistants and workers to adhere to policies/procedures, submittals, schedules, contracting and motivating assistants to uphold core values by leading through example.
• Develop professional relationships with clients and design teams to ensure project success.
• Ensure all on-site personnel comply with the project procedures.
• Exhibit strong organization skills to ensure projects are completed on time.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of time sheets, unit reporting, daily construction reports and labor projections.
• Ensure work performed follows company policies and procedures.
• Work integrally with project management team on status reports, and labor and material projections.
• Develop and maintain schedule to ensure coordinated and timely installations.
• Ensure schedule is followed or changed if necessary.
• Assist project management team in development and implementation of an effective job site communications plan.
• Communicate often and clearly with the team.
• Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a project superintendent with a construction management-at-risk, hard bid, or design-build contractor.
• Experience overseeing multiple projects with per project value in excess of $10 million.
• Experience with healthcare, higher education, and/or laboratory projects with a commercial general contractor preferred.
• Experience with self-performing work in excavation, concrete, and finish carpentry.
• Profitable project track-record and beat-the-budget self-perform labor track record.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with advanced construction technologies such as drones, laser scanners, and 3D modeling.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations and practices.
