About the position

The Supervising Electrical Engineer 3 (SDE) at AMENTUM is a pivotal role based in Englewood, CO, responsible for overseeing a variety of engineering tasks from the initial planning stages through to the final design phase for projects of advanced complexity. The SDE plays a crucial role in managing the discipline engineering on projects, ensuring that they meet customer and project requirements regarding scope, scheduling, and budgets. This position serves as a liaison between discipline engineers and Project Managers, facilitating communication regarding project scope, budget, scheduling, and overall engineering and design requirements. The SDE will report directly to the Chief Discipline Engineer, ensuring that all engineering documents comply with applicable state laws and regulations, including affixing the registered engineer seal when required. In this role, the SDE will maintain records, files, and other documents pertaining to the electrical discipline, and will be responsible for assigning preparers and checkers for electrical discipline specifications while coordinating the review of external specifications. Establishing schedules and budgets to meet project requirements is essential, as is obtaining necessary approvals. The SDE will maintain technical coordination with the Principal Engineer to ensure adherence to industry codes, regulatory requirements, and sound engineering practices. Additionally, the SDE will direct the preparation and submission of periodic reports and forecasts on the status of the electrical discipline, ensuring compliance with state requirements for continuing education and maintaining licenses as requested. The SDE is expected to continually upgrade technical knowledge and capabilities, pursuing additional coursework and training as necessary. Advising the Project Engineering Manager regarding the status of assignments with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems is a key responsibility. The SDE will work closely with the Chief Electrical Engineer and Project Engineering Managers on employee evaluations, promotions, and the overall technical improvement of the group. Leading the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor cost requirements for projects, the SDE will monitor the impact of these factors on the budget and will be responsible for performance management and mentoring of team members. The role also includes providing assistance to projects to address technical issues related to process improvement and assisting in the development of training programs within the area of technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor cost requirements for a project and monitor the effect of these on the budget.
  • Lead all aspects of electrical estimating.
  • Responsible for performance management and mentoring.
  • Provide assistance to projects to address technical issues related to process improvement.
  • Assist in training and mentoring/coaching other team members.
  • Assist in the development of training programs within area of technical expertise and conduct training sessions as appropriate.
  • Create positive working relationships with peer leaders.
  • Create productive relationships with organizations both within and external to Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from a 4-year accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering/design of DOE, DOD, or power projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing/supervising medium to large electrical design teams.
  • Advanced experience in physical design, control, protection, metering, and communication requirements for facilities.
  • Strong understanding of Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architectural, and Instrumentation disciplines.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
  • Advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Must have a Professional Engineer License (PE).
  • Position may require travel.
  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
