About the position

The Supervising Parks/Recreation Coordinator (Business Operations) is a pivotal role within the Cincinnati Parks Department, responsible for overseeing the quality management of various programs, ensuring compliance with accreditations and licensing requirements, and enhancing the operational efficiency of the department. This position requires a proactive approach to evaluating departmental operations and providing support across various divisions to streamline processes. The coordinator will work closely with subordinate personnel, ensuring that all activities within the section are directed effectively and in alignment with departmental goals. Collaboration with community organizations and agencies is essential to expand recreational activities and secure funding sources, thereby enriching the community's engagement with nature and recreational opportunities. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the role emphasizes leadership in the Explore Nature Program, which has a rich history of connecting diverse community members with ecological, cultural, and historical resources. The coordinator will lead a team of certified Naturalists, developing innovative year-round nature education programming that is equitable and inclusive. This includes creating strategies to implement programming across parks, nature centers, schools, and community events, as well as building partnerships with community-based organizations. The coordinator will also be responsible for tracking program satisfaction through community feedback surveys, reporting on implementation efforts, and seeking grant opportunities to support program objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills, a background in environmental education, and the ability to evaluate and implement transformative methods to meet the needs of the community. This role requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of program quality and fostering positive relationships with staff, community members, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the department's program quality management, accreditations, and ODJFS licensing programs.
  • Evaluate departmental operations and provide support to streamline processes across divisions.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to assigned areas.
  • Supervise and monitor the activities of subordinate personnel.
  • Cooperate with agencies and community organizations to enhance recreational activities and funding sources.
  • Lead the development and administration of the Explore Nature Program.
  • Create strategies for equitable and inclusive programming throughout parks and community events.
  • Build partnerships with community-based organizations.
  • Develop and implement community feedback surveys to track program satisfaction.
  • Track and report on program deliverables, including reach, outcomes, and revenue generation.
  • Seek grant opportunities to support programming objectives and improvements to nature centers.
  • Hire, supervise, train, and direct employees providing educational programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Education, Leisure Studies, Parks & Recreation Management, Sociology, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the Parks/Recreation field or similar industries managing people, programs, and properties.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification must be acquired within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience and knowledge of the CAPRA Accreditation process.
  • Experience in Licensed Child Care processes.
  • Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field.
