About the position

The Supervision and Monitoring Supervisor is responsible for the operational management of general supervision and monitoring activities within the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). This role involves developing and implementing policies and procedures related to special education services for children aged 3-21, ensuring compliance with IDEA and ECEA regulations. The supervisor will provide guidance to the field, support a team of consultants, and collaborate with other CDE leadership to enhance educational outcomes across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support to GSM Consultants, including performance reviews.
  • Develop an annual general supervision and monitoring budget.
  • Manage day-to-day general supervision and monitoring activities as outlined in OSEP's QA 23-01.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to CDE colleagues and special education administrators on compliance with special education law.
  • Collaborate with other CDE staff to streamline processes and inform systems outcomes.
  • Participate in data dialogues with staff from the ESSU and cross-offices to develop guidance and technical assistance.
  • Review and revise general supervision and monitoring processes as part of continuous improvement activities.
  • Facilitate the development of rubrics, matrices, and resources to guide the monitoring process.
  • Collaborate with the data supervisor in analyzing data collections to inform activities and complete the SPP/APR report.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in special education.
  • At least 5 years of experience in special education administration above building level.
  • Strong knowledge of special education service delivery and instructional adaptations for students with disabilities.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies related to IDEA Part B regulatory requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of standards-based instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations to adult learners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in special education from an accredited university.
  • Special Education Teacher license K-12 or related service provider license.
  • Director of Special Education/Administrator's License.
