Supervisor - Accounting - Domestic Animal Services

About the position

The Supervisor of Accounting for Domestic Animal Services is responsible for overseeing accounting operations and staff within the assigned business unit. This role involves supervising fiscal activities, implementing accounting policies, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The supervisor will also provide guidance on budget services and fiscal operations, while maintaining compliance with established procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, addressing employee concerns and performance issues.
• Oversees operations and services of the business unit's fiscal section, implementing accounting policies and procedures.
• Manages accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions, authorizing disbursements and reviewing payment vouchers.
• Reconciles accounting transactions, bank statements, and the general ledger for assigned accounts.
• Prepares various financial and accounting reports, including budget reports and executive summaries.
• Administers the Division budget, monitoring expenditures and preparing budget amendments as necessary.
• Advises Division Director and managers on fiscal activities and makes recommendations on operations.
• Develops and maintains accounting databases, ensuring data accuracy and retrieval.
• Creates management reports and performance metrics for departmental performance improvement.
• Assigns work orders and maintains contracts for procured services, ensuring compliance with payment requirements.
• Drafts ordinance revisions and executive summaries as required.
• Supervises payroll preparation and assists with processing as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
• Three years of related experience in accounting or finance.
• Candidates without a degree should possess four additional years of related experience.
• Fingerprinting required.
