About the position

The Supervisor, Accounting position at Pilot Company is responsible for managing the general accounting function, overseeing ledger accounts, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements. This role involves supervising a team, implementing accounting policies, and leading Accounts Receivable projects while maintaining compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide daily oversight of the accounting team.
  • Select, coach, train, and develop direct reports, including conducting performance reviews.
  • Assist the manager in producing and reviewing various financial reports.
  • Implement accounting policies under the direction of the manager.
  • Oversee the calculation, posting, verification, and recording of financial data.
  • Lead day-to-day operations of the accounting group.
  • Maintain and approve Accounts Receivable controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Lead internal and external Accounts Receivable projects.
  • Oversee and approve journal entries, ensuring accuracy in the general ledger.
  • Organize and prioritize Accounts Receivable issues for timely resolution.
  • Lead process improvements for Accounts Receivable activities, including monthly reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent certificate required.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required.
  • Minimum three years' experience in accounting or related area required.
  • Minimum two years' supervisory experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills with a focus on Excel required.
  • Familiarity with Lawson or similar software preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of card services' networks and EMV technology preferred.
  • Experience working with large volumes of data and turning results into actionable intelligence required.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley compliance required.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team required.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills required.
  • Strong teamwork, problem solving, conflict management, influencing, and negotiation skills required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance preferred.
  • Experience with Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance preferred.
