About the position

The Supervisor, Accounts Receivable in Patient Financial Services at Duke Health plays a crucial role in overseeing the Central Financial Services team, ensuring effective management of patient accounts and financial counseling processes. This position is responsible for staff development, compliance with policies, and fostering a positive work environment while contributing to the overall revenue cycle management of the health system.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate activities and workflows of the Central Financial Services Team.
  • Maintain liaison with hospital and clinic supervisory personnel to resolve patient account issues.
  • Create and implement solutions to mitigate future problems in financial counseling and clearance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll, time and attendance, and PTO policies across the team.
  • Develop and continuously update training curriculum for team member success.
  • Assist in determining fiscal requirements and compiling budgetary recommendations.
  • Collect and analyze data for composite reports and special projects.
  • Generate and interpret reports related to department, staff, and financial performance.
  • Execute action plans based on data findings.
  • Assist in implementing new systems that enhance operational and financial performance.
  • Plan and conduct meetings to ensure compliance with practices and inform staff of changes.
  • Develop and recommend operating policies and procedures.
  • Initiate personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, and training new employees.
  • Engage with staff on work culture initiatives.
  • Enforce regulatory and compliance requirements such as HIPAA and JCAHO.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of clerical and accounting principles, usually acquired through an associate degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Five years of progressive experience in an accounts receivable environment, or a bachelor's degree in Accounting with two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
