About the position

As a Supervisor of Aircraft Line Maintenance at American Airlines, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the maintenance technicians responsible for the repair and return to service of our aircraft. This position is part of the Line Maintenance Team within the Integrated Operations Division, where you will be a front-line leader ensuring the safe, compliant, and timely return of aircraft to service. Your responsibilities will include effectively managing the workload, resources, and work relationships with both internal customers and external regulatory authorities and vendors. In this role, you will guide and direct maintenance operations through crew chiefs and leads, ensuring that the implementation of the organization's plans, processes, policies, and procedures is executed efficiently. You will be responsible for the effective utilization of crews to meet the operational workload while adhering to company objectives and policies. Timely and comprehensive communication with the workforce is essential, as is maintaining effective relationships with airport management, FAA, TSA, and other government agencies. Collaboration with other supervisors will be key to accomplishing directives and objectives, and you will be tasked with identifying and correcting unsatisfactory results. Additionally, you will assess the training and development needs of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) within your span of control and provide effective feedback for coaching and development. Working closely with union leadership and the workforce will also be a significant aspect of your role, ensuring a harmonious and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and direct terminal and/or hangar aircraft maintenance through crew chiefs and leads.
  • Oversee the implementation of the organization's plans, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure crews are efficiently utilized to accomplish the operation's workload.
  • Meet company objectives in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for timely and comprehensive communication flow to the workforce.
  • Maintain effective work relationships with airport management, FAA, TSA, other government agencies, suppliers, and similar groups.
  • Collaborate with other supervisors to accomplish directives and objectives.
  • Identify and take steps to correct unsatisfactory results.
  • Identify training and development needs of AMTs within span of control.
  • Provide effective feedback for crew chief and lead coaching/development.
  • Effectively work with union leadership and workforce.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • 3 to 4 years of aircraft maintenance experience.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certificate.
  • Must pass FAA criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA).
  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in business or technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of a successful track record of management in maintenance and/or production environments.
  • 3 years hands-on experience in the repair or manufacture of large transport category aircraft.
