About the position

The Supervisor of Automotive Maintenance is responsible for planning, assigning, and supervising automotive equipment service and repair operations. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and repair activities, ensuring compliance with standards, and managing a team of mechanics and service workers. The supervisor will also coordinate warranty services, maintain records, and handle administrative tasks related to the operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and assigns work to subordinates.
  • Prioritizes service and repair activities and assigns repairs by type of vehicle, nature of repair, work load and needs of user.
  • Schedules vehicles for maintenance and repair work.
  • Inspects, tests and road checks equipment to determine the nature of the defects and failures, and to review the work of the mechanics and service workers.
  • Inspects work to determine progress and conformance to standards and recommends corrective action as needed.
  • Estimates cost of repair work; reviews estimated costs and makes recommendations to repair, scrap or dispose of equipment.
  • Coordinates dealer warranty service and recalls and maintains liaison in scheduling repairs.
  • Coordinates work which is contracted outside the Division and maintains records of same.
  • Coordinates maintenance and accident repairs which are contracted outside the Division as needed and maintains records of same.
  • Oversees maintenance of the tool room.
  • Requisitions repairs parts, fuel, lubricants, supplies and equipment used in repair and preventive maintenance operations.
  • Instructs mechanics when unusually difficult mechanical problems arise.
  • Supervises and/or prepares equipment maintenance, repair records and related reports, and enters data into computer terminal.
  • Arranges vacation schedules and schedules overtime.
  • Maintains proper records of same.
  • Initiates and recommends disciplinary action as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalency.
  • Five (5) years of responsible experience in the mechanical repair of vehicular equipment.
  • Some supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
