About the position

The Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami UHealth/SoLé Mia is responsible for overseeing the acquisition, design, implementation, and maintenance of medical equipment. This role ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines and promotes safe patient care. The supervisor will manage day-to-day operations, supervise staff, and maintain accurate equipment databases while also providing technical training and support.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the acquisition, design, implementation, and maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines in daily operations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date equipment and maintenance databases.
  • Oversee departmental operational requirements, including work schedules and task assignments.
  • Provide supervision and training for Biomedical Engineering personnel.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment problems and implement appropriate repairs.
  • Audit work completed by staff and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Produce, review, and assess reports related to work completion and equipment failures.
  • Provide technical training to employees and customer personnel.
  • Recommend equipment renovation, refurbishment, or replacement based on various factors.
  • Develop, monitor, and control budgets for cost-effective operations.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new equipment and make recommendations.
  • Participate in hazard identification and medical device reporting procedures.
  • Lead and participate in projects related to service vendors and policy development.
  • Collaborate with other support entities to develop support plans for devices or systems.
  • Maintain adequate files and parts inventory for assignments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Knowledge of pertinent regulatory agencies, standards, codes, and procedures regarding medical equipment.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
  • Flexibility in work scheduling to meet customer needs.
