About the position

The Supervisor of Comparative Medicine at NEOMED is responsible for managing the daily operations of the animal facility, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements. This role involves supervising animal care staff, coordinating training, overseeing facility maintenance, and ensuring animal welfare and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist animal care staff, ensuring all tasks are completed.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage staff recruitment and hiring.
  • Evaluate staff knowledge and skills to assist in research projects.
  • Provide input for policy development and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide training in facility utilization and animal care techniques.
  • Oversee facility repairs, maintenance, and quality assurance monitoring.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment problems and schedule preventative maintenance visits.
  • Maintain records and monitor supplies needed for daily operations.
  • Assist with animal husbandry as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding animal research.
  • Maintain accurate records for IACUC protocols and facility conditions.
  • Assist in preparing for inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Minimum of five years of animal care experience, with some experience in laboratory animals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • AALAS Technician Certification at the LATG Level or eligibility for LATG certification.
  • Experience performing animal husbandry in laboratory animals.
  • Additional experience in surgery, anesthesia, and research animal techniques.
  • Two years of experience working in a regulated environment.
