About the position

The Supervisor of Laboratory Medicine at Geisinger Medical Laboratories is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily operations of the assigned laboratory section. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing the activities of personnel to ensure optimal service delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity. The supervisor will oversee both technical and administrative operations, ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in laboratory services.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates daily operations of the assigned laboratory section.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs activities of section personnel to provide optimal service delivery.
  • Supervises technical and administrative operations of the laboratory section.
  • Maintains a qualified staff to assure quality service is provided.
  • Conducts performance appraisals and ensures training and orientation of new hires.
  • Participates in planning and overseeing laboratory information system functions.
  • Ensures staff is trained in all required computer applications.
  • Delegates tasks to assure equitable workload and adequate coverage.
  • Prepares schedules to meet service demands and maintain productivity standards.
  • Monitors annual operating budget for section cost centers.
  • Collaborates on equipment purchases and leases with the Anatomic Pathology Operations Director.
  • Supervises analysis of costs and negotiation of contracts for materials.
  • Oversees section purchasing, receiving, and inventory management.
  • Assures compliance with applicable regulations and accrediting standards.
  • Supports the Quality Program and facilitates service improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of bench experience required.
  • Supervisors are expected to maintain technical competencies as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 1 year managing people, processes, or projects preferred.
