About the position

The Supervisor - Manufacturing, Ops & Assembly position at Blue Origin involves leading a team of technicians in the assembly and installation of components for human-rated orbital launch vehicles. This role is critical in ensuring safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the company's vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space. The supervisor will coordinate with various teams, oversee personnel performance, and implement continuous safety improvements while fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise personnel working on GS1 first stage and GS2 second stage internal and external installations.
  • Guide teammates and ensure that each person has everything vital to safely succeed.
  • Champion continued learning and growth to attract, develop, and retain phenomenal people.
  • Conduct regular check-ins to ensure team member performance, fulfillment, and growth.
  • Author job descriptions, screen candidates, and conduct interviews. Make hiring recommendations.
  • Develop and implement process, efficiency, and continuous safety improvements.
  • Responsible for prioritizing and establishing Work Center assignments, employee training, overtime assignments, and back-up for absent employees.
  • Maintain all shop programs including Safety, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Clean as you go programs.

Requirements

  • 10 plus years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, or another relevant field.
  • Experience as a 'front line' leader, working directly with individual contributors in various roles.
  • Clear understanding of production versus development environments.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately - in writing, in person, and via video calls.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Management, Business, etc.) or equivalent directly related years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and coordination skills.
  • Continuous improvement mentality.
  • Curiosity for understanding the details of our business and how to optimize it.
  • Lean certification.
  • Experience in new product introduction.
  • Experience in a team-based Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Aerospace/Launch vehicles.
  • Experience in assembly, integration, and handling of large products.
  • Experience in integrating systems, pneumatics, fluids, electrical etc.
