About the position
The Supervisor of Special Education is responsible for directing, coordinating, and continually improving special education programs and services for students identified as needing special education provisions. This role involves assisting in the effective utilization of staff and resources in the delivery of special education for the district. The position requires collaboration with building principals and oversight of special education teachers and instructional assistants.
Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate special education programs and services.
- Supervise and evaluate full and part-time special education teachers and instructional assistants.
- Implement regulations from the Pennsylvania Department of Education regarding special education.
- Complete necessary forms for the education of exceptional children, including the district's Special Education Plan.
- Prepare documentation for compliance audits and maintain records of exceptional students.
- Report allocation of special education funds and maintain expenditure records.
- Assist in the selection of special education personnel and collaborate on teacher assignments.
- Evaluate educational placements and programs for students needing special education provisions.
- Communicate with principals, staff, and parents about the needs of exceptional students.
- Assist in curriculum development and support research-based methods in the classroom.
- Work with the Director of Pupil Services on budgeting for special education.
