About the position

The Supervisory Purchasing Agent position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves overseeing the Logistics Service within the Tennessee Health Care System. The role is responsible for managing the workload of purchasing staff, ensuring timely completion of procurement tasks, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures. This position requires strong leadership skills to train and guide employees, as well as the ability to make day-to-day adjustments to workflow based on staffing levels and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute workload among employees according to established workflow responsibilities.
  • Modify workload to match staffing levels for timely completion of tasks.
  • Review the Delayed Order Report (DOR) daily and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Instruct employees on specific tasks and job techniques, providing written instructions and materials.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees and document their orientation and competencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applications, VHA directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Check purchasing agent's work in progress and review completed work for compliance with service line expectations.
  • Approve annual and sick leave for purchasing staff and inform supervisor of facility management needs.
  • Report on employee performance, training needs, and behavioral issues to the supervisor.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates to ensure compliance with policies and performance measures.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 level in the Federal service, including planning and coordinating work, overseeing procurement, and training staff.
  • Ability to manage human resources and make decisions based on established policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare procurement environment.
  • Knowledge of VHA directives and policies.
