About the position

The Supervisor of Recycling and Wastewater at First Solar is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of wastewater treatment and recycling personnel. This role involves planning and supervising work assignments, training and developing staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. The supervisor will spend a significant amount of time on the plant floor, collaborating with other supervisors to achieve company goals and manage plant operations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise daily work assignments of wastewater treatment and recycling personnel.
  • Train and develop direct reports.
  • Provide clear direction to hourly associates, contractors, and vendors.
  • Communicate objectives, systems, and policies to direct reports across four shifts.
  • Handle employee relations issues in collaboration with appropriate departments.
  • Spend majority of work time on the plant floor to assist technicians and manage operations safely and compliantly.
  • Collaborate with other area supervisors to meet company goals.
  • Supervise the operation of wastewater treatment and recycling systems.
  • Develop documentation and training for process changes.
  • Supervise troubleshooting and servicing of wastewater and recycling equipment.
  • Manage the preventative maintenance program for equipment.
  • Work with Corporate WW/Recycling Engineering for proper handoff of new or modified systems.
  • Complete special projects in a timely manner.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement.
  • Interface with company and supplier personnel for ordering chemicals and materials.
  • Create effective communications to foster team building.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Oversee responsibilities of WW/Recycling operators in managing hazardous waste.
  • Ensure proper labeling of containers and inform EHS Department of waste management issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years in water treatment, environmental, chemistry or related field.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to handle conflicts professionally.
  • Proficiency with wet chemical processes and wastewater treatment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of chemical compatibilities and experience in chemical analyses.
  • Proven safe handling and experience of industrial chemicals.
  • Mechanical skills and understanding of instrument calibration.
  • Ability to interpret and read basic mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of lab practices, instruments, and equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
