About the position

The Supervisor of Vegetation Management Operations leads a team and oversees outside contractors to ensure public safety, electric reliability, and compliance with vegetation management regulations. This role involves making strategic decisions, managing significant events, and serving as a subject matter expert in the industry. The supervisor collaborates with various stakeholders to monitor vegetation near PG&E assets, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supervises Vegetation Management operations and outside contractors in the service territory.
  • Operates under general standards set by the Manager and makes short- and long-term decisions at the local level.
  • Manages significant events such as major storms, wildfires, and safety violations.
  • Provides oversight and mentors assigned Vegetation Program Managers.
  • Handles complex issues with customers and public entities, representing PG&E's position on sensitive vegetation issues.
  • Develops budget forecasts and business cases.
  • Reviews and approves invoices, purchase orders, and funding for complex projects.
  • Manages multiple programs and projects supporting other lines of business.
  • Acts as a liaison for environmental submissions of agency work.
  • Reports updates and corrective actions, holding daily huddles under the Lean Management model.
  • Oversees Vegetation Management safety investigations and corrective action plans.
  • Ensures regular checks, audits, and assessments of contractor work for compliance and safety.
  • May own the QC program and coordinate activities for the department.
  • Develops and executes project plans, ensuring work is on track and aligned with department goals.
  • Creates and manages data models for work forecasting and budget monitoring.
  • Leads performance improvement teams and seeks continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on vegetation management issues.
  • Coaches program managers and contractors in regulatory and industry forums.
  • Oversees the development of scopes of work and project management for outside contractors.
  • Reviews budget forecasts for new initiatives and submits them for approval.
  • Supervises staff through effective recruitment, training, and performance management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • California Driver's License.
  • Four years of job-related experience with at least two years in a leadership role.

  • ISA Arborist/Utility Specialist certification
  • PMP Certification
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
  • RPF Registered Professional Forester
  • Seven years of related experience with at least five years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of forestry and utility vegetation management concepts.
  • Broad knowledge of the utility and energy industry, including economic and social issues.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Influence and negotiation skills to navigate sensitive issues.
  • Good organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of project and program management concepts.
  • Strong business and data analysis knowledge.
