About the position

The Supervisor at Columbia University will oversee the custodial staff responsible for maintaining cleanliness and upkeep in a major area of the Medical Center division. This role involves directing work assignments, evaluating staff performance, and ensuring compliance with university standards for cleanliness and safety.

Responsibilities

• Direct the work assignments given to bargaining unit employees.
• Evaluate and rate attendance, punctuality, and performance for continued employability and promotion potential.
• Administer discipline and provide leadership and counsel to employees.
• Develop and implement training programs for custodial services.
• Conduct training courses to improve the skills of the workforce.
• Estimate time, cost, manpower, materials, and supplies for assignments.
• Inspect assigned areas for quality of cleanliness and condition.
• Assess the need for maintenance, repair, and improvement for compliance with University standards.
• Perform duties related to Fire Safety Director certification for Class B/Commercial buildings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.
• Two years of related experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Some experience in a lead position or as a supervisor.
• Knowledge of building operations and management.

• Thorough knowledge of cleaning operations.
