About the position
The Supervisory Agricultural Commodity Grader (Specialty Crops) serves as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) within the Agricultural Marketing Service's Specialty Crops Inspection Division. This role is responsible for overseeing grading, inspection, certification, and audit-based services for fresh and processed fruits and vegetables. The incumbent will manage office activities and personnel, ensuring compliance with U.S. grade standards and addressing industry complaints regarding grading determinations.
Responsibilities
- Establish performance standards for subordinates and evaluate their performance.
- Plan work for subordinates, including supervisors, based on changing workloads and priorities.
- Provide information to Division management regarding major complaints and actions taken.
- Conduct orientation training, commodity workshops, and refresher training sessions.
- Discuss work-related issues with subordinates and refer complex issues to higher management.
- Resolve complaints from the industry regarding grade determinations made by subordinate graders.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, including applying grading standards and inspection regulations.
- Experience serving as a technical expert in grading and inspection processes.
- Ability to provide oversight and direction to operational activities.
- Strong communication skills in both oral and written forms.
