The Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist serves as an Operations Supervisor in a terminal facility, specifically within the Great Falls Air Traffic Control Tower (GTF). This role is pivotal in planning and directing operations within designated areas of responsibility. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for providing first-line supervision to a team of Developmental and Certified Professional Controllers, ensuring that air traffic control assignments are executed efficiently and safely. The position requires a strong focus on leadership, as the supervisor must plan and assign work to subordinate employees, set work priorities, and manage schedules effectively. In addition to overseeing daily operations, the Operations Supervisor is tasked with approving leave requests, providing guidance and instruction on both work-related and administrative matters, and evaluating employee performance. This includes recommending performance ratings and addressing employee complaints, escalating unresolved issues to higher management when necessary. The supervisor also plays a crucial role in identifying training needs for staff and arranging for their professional development. The Operations Supervisor is expected to find ways to improve productivity and enhance the quality of work within the team. This may involve adjusting staffing levels and work procedures based on resource decisions made at higher levels. Furthermore, the supervisor is responsible for communicating and reinforcing diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies, ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably. The Operations Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager, and their performance is evaluated based on the effectiveness of achieving assigned program objectives.
