About the position

The position involves providing first line supervision to a team of Developmental and Certified Professional Controllers, overseeing a staff of Air Traffic Control Specialists responsible for executing air traffic control assignments within a designated geographic area. The supervisor is tasked with planning and assigning work to subordinate employees, setting work priorities and schedules, and approving leave requests. Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for offering advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work-related and administrative matters. Evaluating employee performance and recommending performance ratings is a critical aspect of this role, as is addressing and resolving employee complaints, including referring more serious grievances to higher-level management. The supervisor must identify and arrange for the developmental and training needs of employees, seeking ways to enhance production and improve the quality of work. Adjustments to staffing levels and work procedures may be necessary to align with resource decisions made at higher levels. The supervisor will also recommend goals and objectives for the area and track accomplishments to ensure that targets are met. A strong emphasis is placed on communicating and reinforcing diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs in all areas of responsibility, including selections, training, and transfers. The role supports and participates in the labor management partnership process, fostering a work environment where all employees are treated fairly and equitably.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50 as part of the application process.
  • Designated or Random Drug Testing is required.
  • A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required.
  • Current medical certification is required.
  • Must have held an FAA 2152 FG-14 or above regional or headquarters position for at least 1 year; OR must have been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year in an ATS facility; OR must have held a MSS position for at least 1 year in an ATS facility.
