About the position

The Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist (Operations Supervisor - MSS-2) position at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) involves overseeing operations within a Level 4 terminal facility. The role includes providing first-line supervision to a team of Developmental and Certified Professional Controllers, ensuring effective air traffic control operations, and fostering a diverse and equitable work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a staff of Air Traffic Control Specialists responsible for air traffic control assignments.
  • Plans and assigns work to subordinate employees, setting work priorities and schedules.
  • Approves leave and provides advice, counsel, and instruction on work and administrative matters.
  • Evaluates employee performance and recommends performance ratings.
  • Hears and resolves employee complaints, referring unresolved issues to higher management.
  • Identifies and arranges for developmental training needs of employees.
  • Implements strategies to improve production and work quality.
  • Adjusts staffing levels and work procedures based on higher-level resource decisions.
  • Recommends goals and objectives for the area and tracks accomplishments.
  • Communicates and reinforces diversity and EEO policies in all responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must have held an FAA 2152 FG-14 or above regional or headquarters position for at least 1 year; OR
  • Must have been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year in an ATS facility; OR
  • Must have held a MSS position for at least 1 year in an ATS facility.
