About the position

The Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist (Operations Supervisor) position at the Federal Aviation Administration involves overseeing a team of Air Traffic Control Specialists, ensuring effective operations and compliance with established policies. The role includes managerial responsibilities such as planning, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing training and guidance to subordinates. The supervisor will also manage budgets and resources, contribute to strategic goals, and may serve as a Watch Supervisor when assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the work of subordinate employees at the organizational unit level.
  • Provides first-line supervision to a team of FSS Air Traffic Control Specialists (ATCS).
  • Plans, assigns, sets priorities, and schedules tasks for the team.
  • Monitors and evaluates employee performance, providing coaching and development.
  • Takes or recommends corrective/disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Responsible for planning and directing operations within delegated areas of responsibility.
  • Acts as the approving authority for leave and provides direction on technical and administrative matters.
  • Facilitates team building and provides training and guidance to subordinates.
  • Continuously reviews work processes to ensure results meet agency mission and customer needs.
  • Serves as a member of the management team to ensure organizational performance meets strategic goals.
  • Manages budget and requests additional resources as needed.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12, CPC level in an air traffic facility.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of air traffic control laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to perform managerial duties affecting employees in an organizational unit.
