About the position

The Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist (Operations Supervisor) is responsible for planning and directing operations within designated areas of responsibility at a terminal or en route facility. This role involves providing first-line supervision to a team of Developmental and Certified Professional Controllers, ensuring effective management of air traffic control operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and assigns work to subordinate employees.
  • Sets work priorities and schedules.
  • Approves leave and provides advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Evaluates performance of employees and recommends performance ratings.
  • Hears and resolves complaints from employees and refers unresolved complaints to higher management.
  • Identifies and arranges for developmental and training needs of employees.
  • Implements improvements to production and quality of work.
  • Adjusts staffing levels and work procedures based on resource decisions.
  • Recommends goals and objectives for the area and tracks accomplishments.
  • Communicates and reinforces diversity and EEO policies and programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have specialized Air Traffic experience in a military or civilian air traffic facility.
  • Must have held an FAA 2152 FG-14 or above position for at least 1 year, or been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year, or held a MSS position for at least 1 year in an ATS facility.
  • Education cannot be substituted for experience.
