About the position

The Supervisory Associate Advocate (TAGM) position at the Department of the Treasury involves managing a team within the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS). The role focuses on planning, assigning, and evaluating work, as well as providing guidance and support to employees. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to advocate for clients in tax-related matters, ensuring effective resolution of issues while maintaining compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production and work processes.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level within the pay band or GS grade in the normal line of progression in the Federal service.
  • Demonstrated management/leadership experience applying management techniques and principles for program objectives.
  • Experience advocating for clients to resolve tax controversy matters.
  • Knowledge of tax matters through experience in accounting, financial, or legal management positions.
  • Experience applying regulations and official guidance related to tax administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a project/program manager role or as a senior specialist/analyst with oversight responsibilities.
  • Experience participating in councils or task forces that cross organizational boundaries.
