About the position

The Supervisory Biologist (Deputy Field Supervisor) position at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service involves overseeing a team within the Arizona Ecological Services Field Office. The role encompasses a range of supervisory and managerial duties, including providing technical guidance, conducting scientific reviews, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Responsibilities

  • Serve as a supervisor, exercising the full range of supervisory and managerial duties for the staff.
  • Provide administrative and technical guidance to subordinate staff and support other Service units in the region.
  • Conduct scientific reviews and provide recommendations on actions involving listed species and critical habitat.
  • Plan workloads, evaluate employee tasks, and ensure timely completion of ESA Section 7 consultations and Section 4 work products.
  • Review and approve ESA Section 7 work products, ensuring compliance with ESA law and regulations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or National status is required.
  • A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in these fields.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing short- and long-term biological or natural resource projects.
  • Knowledge of Federal statutes and regulations related to fish and wildlife conservation.
  • Experience coordinating activities with internal and external stakeholders.
